Loc Star: Toni Morrison

Toni Morrison was born “Chloe Anthony Wofford” in 1931, making her just over 85 years old today. She was born in Lorain, Ohio and attended Howard and Cornell University, where she obtained a Master of Arts in 1955.

She is a writer, editor, playwright, and literary critic as well as professor at  Princeton University.

Ms. Morrison has been educated, talented, and not afraid to speak about race topics, from the very beginning.

Some of her most popular books include:

The Bluest Eye (1970)

Sula (1973)

Song of Solomon (1977)

Tar Baby (1981)

Beloved (1987, adopted into a movie by Oprah Winfrey in 1998)

I can relate to “The Bluest Eye”, as it centers around a young black girl’s struggle to find her own sense of beauty among white society.

Her trademark silver locs make her look very distinguished. Her achievements are no doubt extensive and inspirational.

She has won a Pulitzer Price, American Book Award, and Nobel Price in Literacy, to name a few of her many wards.
