Grapefruits come in red, pink, and white varieties. They are known to be high in vitamin C and their high water content make them hydrating for the skin and body. Raw grapefruits contain an anti-inflammatory enzyme called bromelain. This enzyme is also skin cleansing. Grapefruit, like all other citrus fruits, are mucus dissolving. Not only do they break down mucus, but grapefruit is also believed to have the ability to break down cellulite. When at the supermarket, choose grapefruits that are firm with a little bit of give and are heavy for their size. Remember that only raw — not canned, pickled, or cooked — grapefruits have this beauty-enhancing enzyme. Be sure to check out this recipe for grapefruit juice with a twist!
