A Year in Review

You may notice that I have not posted here in almost a year.

As January 2018 comes to an end, I thought I’d give a brief run-down of this past year.

Around this time last year, I had the honour of meeting Nerissa Irving and attending one of her feminine health classes, “Yoni Poppin”, in Toronto. The class covered a lot of ground and the energy was great! Nerissa herself was sweet and — of course — beautiful. It was a great way to kick off my year. Sometimes I go to events alone if it’s something that really interests me. This was the case here. I would recommend doing the same to anyone, as there’s something empowering about it.

A few weeks prior to that, I had finished my first e-book, “The Secret to Luscious Locs.” It was a labour of love. I had taken a 10-year break from serious writing, so the time and dedication I put into it was a big deal. In it, I detailed everything about my hair regimen and lifestyle that leads me to look the way I do today – about 10 years younger than my actual age, and younger than when I embarked on the journey I share.

Around the same time, a close friend of mine passed way unexpectedly. It lead me to reevaluate what’s important in life and increased my sense of gratitude. It was painful, of course, but it was something I had no choice but to come to terms with. With some of my extra time, — sometimes insomnia — I added to “The Secret to Luscious Locs” until it became long enough to be an actual book. It is now sold in both e-book and paperback version and is dedicated to my friend’s memory.

Nowadays, I make YouTube videos when the mood strikes me and don’t worry as much about building a following on certain social media platforms.

I have some handmade products related to locs that I’m very excited to get out there, and a few new interests (reading, meditation, art) that keep me busy as well as grounded. I even attend a group meditation program on a weekly basis; that’s how into I am. Whenever I would vent about a life situation in the past, people would always advise me to meditate. I never really listened until recently. It has increased my sense of clarity and given me “control” over my emotions.

Does this mean I will stop updating LocCulture.com?

No. It just means that with the break I chose to take, and fresh consciousness, the content heron may change a little.

Thanks for stopping by, and stay tuned!

-Denise
